Here we have a Tamburo Volume Acrylic 416 drum kit. Tamburo heavily researched ways of making the best sounding Acrylic shell drums - the Volume series drums are the result of that research. Tamburo came up with a 3/4 mm seamless shell design which also utilises their perfect curve edge that follows the curve of a drum head.
The particular kit we have here is their 416 configuration which is an extremely unique but very usable set of sizes. The 416 comprises of a 16 x 16 bass drum which is elevated with the included bass drum riser, the tom is a 10 x 7, the floor is a very punchy 12 x 12 and the snare drum is a 12 x 6.5. Acrylic shells are known for their incredible bottom end, close your eyes and you will think that you are listening to a full size set.
The bass drum on this kit is a 16 x 16, a bass drum riser is included to offer optimal bass drum beater contact in the centre of the head, Tamburo specially make a contoured batter bass drum hoop with a cutaway section at the bottom to allow for proper pedal placement - this bass drum sounds incredible thanks to this flexible design combine with the Evans EMAD system offered as standard.
Another subtle yet effective feature on the 416 kit is a specially sized floor tom, on many compact kits we see a standard rack tom from the builders mainstream series fashioned in to a floor tom with the addition of some leg brackets. All of Tamburo's 416 kits have a proportionately sized floor tom which is unique to the kit, in the case of the Volume its a 12 x 12 and it sounds thunderous.
The Volume series uses the Tamburo ST lug. The Strong Traction Lug is a very serious piece of design. The long lug design creates a stable drum head tension which enhances the mechanical strength of each full rotation turn of the rod. The unique design allows the shell not to be loaded with any tension and remains free to fully conduct air movement produced by the strike of the head. There are 4 main components to the ST Lug, 1) the ABS anti-vibration contacts at the top and bottom. 2) The 0.6mm Alloy Pipe travelling between the two ABS points. 3) The stainless steel covers which case the sides of ABS points. 4) The brass pin.
The Volume kits are made in Italy and feature all the same top end features found in the Opera and Unika series drums. Nice touches on the Volume include Wood Inlayed bass drum hoops these are lined inside and out with HPL (high pressure laminate) which defines the appearance. Twelve layers of beech are used all running in the same direction and attached using a special PU glue. These hoops are extremely strong and only 8mm thick. The bass drum spurs are professional grade, the tom is on a rims suspension system, the tom and floor tom leg brackets are all Die-Cast.
The Volume Series snare drum come with 2.2mm Triple flanged hoops, 25 strand steel wires and Tamburo's proprietary design snare system. The fused block lug allows for great feeling and precise adjustment. A small magnet is fitted within the mechanism to ensure stability and grip over time. The die cast butt plate features a bridge design reducing shell contact whilst maintaining good grip of the wire.
All Tamburo drums come fitted as standard with Evans USA drum heads, the Volume kit has EC2 batter heads over Genera Reso heads on the Toms. The bass drum gets and EMAD system and the snare has a UV1 over 300 Reso. This makes the Volume series even better value ensuring a great sound straight out of the boxes!
