Sakae is the Japanese drum builder who up until 2013 exclusively produced Yamaha's high end drums - something they had been doing since the 60's. In 2013 Yamaha and Sakae parted company and Sakae decided to go it alone making drums under their own name. For the first few years things appeared to be going well with scores of high profile drummers opting to play the drums and the quality of the product was as good as what had gone before. Unfortunately during 2017 it was announced that the company was in distress and operations were suspended.
At NAMM 2018 it was announced that Korg USA had bought the Sakae Trade Mark saving the much of the workforce and the proprietary machinery. Products from the new line up come under the name 'Sakae Osaka Heritage'. These drums are produced in both their original Taiwan facility and at their HQ in Osaka Japan. Korg hired Sakae's lead designer Shun Tsuju to carefully reshape and rebuild the brand, the transition has been very successful with a stream of exciting new products now in the market.
