PEARL CUSTOM Z (CZX CUSTOM) 4 PIECE DRUM KIT CHAMPAGNE BIRDSEYE MAPLE (PRE-LOVED)

What we have here is probably a drum set from one of Pearls finest moments! This is a Custom Z Series sometimes referred to as the CZX or CZX Custom finished in stunning Champagne Birdseye (a finish exclusively and only ever available on this very series) These kits were produced between 1989 and 1994.

At the time Custom Z represented the finest build quality Pearl had ever realised and was fully designed and built in the Pearl Japan facility. Whilst the Custom Z has a similar appearance and many similar hardware cues as seen in the MLX and BLX ranges, make no mistake this was fully produced and built in Japan, even the Super Hoops are Japanese built and branded as such.

All CZX bass drums and floor toms are constructed of 10 ply 100% maple with a 12.5mm wood thickness. The extra density enables maximum lows and presence without unwanted overtone. These are the thickest shells on the kit and at the time were the thickest ever offered from Pearl.

The Tom Shells are also 100% Maple and are an 8 ply, 10mm thick construction, Pearls research at the time indicated this shell density allowed for a wide mid range, low sustain and a clean high end attack, perfect for the higher tuning registers of smaller toms and Snare Drums. A highly figured Birdseye Maple exterior and a beautiful hand stained Champagne Lacquer complete the look and I personally love the Hi-Tension lugs and the stunning Made In Japan Custom Z badges.

This kit all came from one owner. The shells are in extremely good condition, there were some typical age related issues with the fittings, we have replaced the SP30 Bass Drum Spurs, sourced the original LB30 Leg brackets complete with memory locks and some missing T-Hooks and Claws for the bass drum. Some lugs had broken screw holes, we managed to source like for like insulated hi-tension lugs on the toms and floor tom.

There were 3 faulty hi-tension lugs on the bass drum, because this is the rarer specification 22 x 18 size, the replacement component part is extremely rare, we would anticipate the only way to obtain these would be to find another drum of the same size that could act as a parts donor. To keep the look of the kit we chose to locate all the Hi-Tension lugs to the visible areas of the bass drum and replaced 6 underside fittings with Pearl SRX separate lugs which feature the same brass insert. All the broken lugs come supplied with the kit with the exception of 1 hi-tension lug for the bass drum which didn't come to us with the kit.

Pre-Loved - Shells 9/10 Condition - Very slight surface marks and usual pedal rash on the bass drum hoop. Metal Work 6/10 Condition - Typical pitting associated with the CZX, MLX and BLX hi-tension lugs, everything has been fully checked and serviced to ensure this kit is good to use.

This is now a true collectable and nothing quite draws attention like it! It is very rare to find a 4 piece all colour matched and with the extra deep 22 x 18 Bass Drum and Square Toms.
