PREMIER RESONATOR 9 PIECE DOUBLE BASS DRUM KIT, PIANO BLACK, (SPANDAU BALLET KIT CIRCA 1989)

Here we have a flagship Premier Resonator from 1989 custom made for Spandau Ballet drummer John Keeble. This kit is finished in Piano Black Lacquer, the internal covers are also finished in the same colour which really sets this kit off.

In 1989 John was using an expansive set up all on a custom built rack system, this kit features custom made specifications such as two 22 x 18 un-drilled bass drums and 16 x 16 & 18 x 16 rack mounted toms. 

Premier took drum shell design to a completely new level with Resonator, these drums have a truly unique sound. Resonator drums are twin shell, the outer shell takes all the stress and holds the shell mounted hardware whilst the inner 2 ply birch shell is stress free and free floating allowing it to resonate freely.

The drums became popular for their strong fundamental pitch, longer sustain and wide tuning range. Premier patented the technology meaning the unique sonic characteristics have always been exclusive to this range. The tone and definition of these drums are often compared with the Recording Custom which would later be built for a period at the same factory under licence for Yamaha by Premier.

This is a rare opportunity to get one of Premier’s finest Birch drum sets custom built in Leicestershire for an artist. The condition of this kit is very good considering the age, there are typical surface marks on the Piano Black associated with normal wear and tear. There are 4 small scratches down to the wood. The metal work is all exceptional - bright Chrome, all original too!

  • PreLoved - 7/10 Condition - A few surface marks on the lacquer,  four small scratches down to the wood. Otherwise the kit is in well above average condition for it’s age.
